Dying to Self in a Society of Self-Love

This isn’t going to be a popular opinion but quite frankly, you need to know the Truth because the Truth will set you free.

In a culture of “self-love” and “acceptance” comes a narcissistic attitude about entitlement and self-gratification. Encouragement is good, but it is not the foundation in which we find our value. The seed of “self” has been planted by the enemy since the beginning of our existence (Gen 3:1-5) and he knows exactly how we have evolved since then and just how to manipulate us based on our “feelings”. He is always seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8) and of course he isn’t going to come dressed as a ghoul in the night because our natural instincts automatically disassociate with this type of evil and he knows that. This isn’t his first rodeo.. he is going to make it look, feel, and be like everything you need (2 Corinth 11:14). It is a set up to feed you doubt and fear and then come in transformed as “an angel of light” so that you may fall for the temptations of this world and continue to feed your flesh. However, with every temptation does the LORD make a way of escape (1 Corinth 10:13).

This is why need to become truly born-again; being baptized in the name of The Father, Son, & Holy Spirit ( Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16) so that by replacing “us” with the Word of GODJesus, and BELIEVING on His name we can receive wisdom, knowledge, and an understanding of our identity, our authority, and who we are IN HIM (Romans 12:2). Then we can discern that which is evil and that which is the good and perfect will of God. Our carnal understanding can not and will not suffice (1 Corinth 2:14), especially in these last days. satan’s number one mission is to destroy our relationship with GOD and our healthy Fear of HIM. He will do this by inflating us with so much of “ourselves” that we don’t see Jesus for who and what He truly is; The WAY, The TRUTH, and The LIFE (John 14:16). The Bible says in these last days people will be lovers of their own selves (2 Tim 3:2). Read that again… lovers of their OWN selves. If this doesn’t open your eyes, PRAY, and pray hard. Yes, the LORD said the second greatest commandment of all is to love OTHERS as yourselves (Mark 12:31) – not after yourself, because yourself should always come last and there is no greater LOVE than this: to lay down your life for your friends(John 15:13). The only scripture in the Bible that says anything about “loving yourself” wasn’t a pre-condition to love others but an understanding that we are naturally defenders of our own self. There is no third commandment, it says what it says and it means what it means. He said the greatest among you are the servants (Mtthw 23:11), humble in heart and full of humility. He said whoever is first shall be last (Mtthw 20:16), He said DENY yourself (Luke 9:23) and REPLACE YOUR MIND with the mind of Christ (Romans 12:2, Phil 2:5). We MUST crucify the flesh (Gal 5:24)- not feed it. The spirit of pride, selfishness, and self-centeredness is at the center of almost ALL sin even in the most minute way. Our hearts need to be searched by the LORD so that He can create in us a clean heart and renew a right Spirit within us. I encourage you to pray about this, because you may indeed not recognize it. IF you truly love the LORD, you will do so with ALL of your heart, and ALL of your mind, and ALL of your soul (Mark 12:30). This is not about not having confidence or “hating” yourself in the secular sense, but rather, realizing that we are no good without Christ AND IN Christ we don’t have to worry about “building ourselves up” because His LOVE does that for us. His SPIRIT does that for us. HE is more than enough and His grace & mercy is sufficient for thee. For in this place of full surrender is where He gets ALL the glory because in our weakness, then He is strong (2 Corinth 12:9).

We HAVE to believe that. He said to “Him that overcometh, I will write upon him my NEW NAME” (Rev 3:12). We must become so small and still before Him that we can literally look in the mirror and not see ourselves anymore (2 Corinth 5:17), and honestly, that should be our main goal as a follower of Jesus. To be FULLY replaced by Him. To be Holy as He is Holy (1 Peter 1:16). Yes, take care of your temple as it the only one God gave you (1 Corinth 6:19-20) but do it so that you can be fit for the WILL of God and not for vanity ( 1 Tim 4:8). We will always have seasons of attack and through much tribulation will we enter into the Kingdom of God (Acts 14:22) – our mind is not exempt from this and instead, it is our biggest battlefield.. but if our identity is IN Christ then what are we trippin’ for? Jesus already overcame the enemy & WE (Christ in us) have the victory, IT IS FINISHED! God said to worry about nothing (phil 4:6) & pray about everything. At first, it isn’t easy to trust what you cannot control, I know, but you WILL get stronger in the Lord. You have got to discipline yourself and get in the WORD every day and remember His promises; He is the ONLY way to get through, overcome, and make it down this narrow road. I didn’t grow up with a lot of love around me, let alone any love for myself and I know what’s it’s like to be on the other side and not feel worthy, to be depressed and full of worry.. and I most definitely have been the hardest on myself to the point of suicide, BUT when I was saved by the Grace of God those thoughts and self-loathing attributes washed completely away! I am renewed and my confidence is now in the LORD! HalleluYAH!

Running to Him because we are FULLY KNOWN and LOVED by Him is everything and all we need.. Our Abba, Father. Some quote, bestseller, or motivational speech isn’t going to help you become who you were meant to be, beloved.. only the Word of God can do what it is MEANT to do (Isaiah 55:11) and quite honestly, those other things are only going to hinder you with more vicious cycles of anxiety because your not feeding your Spirit with what it needs so that the old man can die. The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but MIGHTY through God to the pulling down of strongholds (2 Corinth 10:4). This is why we MUST put on our FULL Armor of GOD every day (Eph 6) to fight the good fight of faith (1 Tim 6:12) and wage a good warfare (1 Tim 1:18)! ONLY The Bible – The Living Word of God The name of our LORD ( Prov 18:10): Jesus Christ is our COMFORTER, and our STRONG TOWER, our ROCK to stand on (Psalm 18:2) and all that we need to OVERCOME is in HIM. Look to Him & Praise Him for who we are in HIM and remember the Words as He has said them to you.. For they are Spirit and they are life (Jonh 6:63). We don’t need self-empowerment, self-development or any other type of egotistical nonsense because our flesh profits nothing (Johhn 6:63). The answer is not within ourselves, of ourselves, by our own might, power, or a million self-affirmations, but instead, through GOD, by His Spirit (Zech 4:6) who told us to hide His Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11) so that He can bring all things to our remembrance (John 14:26) when the enemy comes like a thief in the night to kill our hope, steal our joy, and ultimately try to destroy us. Therefore, brothers and sisters, “Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it” (1 Thessa 5:22-24).

It’s not about us… it never was.
